ADVENT THEMES (2023)

Bill Redinger designed 4 new scratchboard pieces for the 4 Sundays of Advent, 2023.

Liturgical Banners (2022)

The banners in the front of our sanctuary are a collaborative project of the Geneva Art Team. They were designed and painted by Kate Austin. Cam Anderson built the frames and Anton Vermaak engineered the lighting.

The banners are made of acrylic paint on high-density spunbound polyethylene (commonly known as tyvek), backlit with LED lights.

Discussion of the banner project dates to January 2022, when the Art Team began dreaming of a project to highlight a season of the church calendar which could expand to compliment the changes of the church year.

The team hung the first banners for the project in Advent of 2022, and is planning subsequent banner designs for the rest of the church year.

A Great Cloud of Witnesses (2020)

For All Saints' Day

2020, the Geneva Arts Team invited the congregation to participate in an outdoor art show to portray a collection of saints. The portraits, created by twelve Genevans, were printed and reproduced in poster size, and were installed with wheat paste at two outdoor venues.

Digital Easter Mosaic (2020)

Here is the mosaic created by members and friends of Geneva Campus Church. It is based on Fra Angelica’s “Noli mi tangera,” or “Do not touch me,” which is a quote from John 20:17:

Jesus said to her, "Do not hold on to me, because I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and say to them, 'I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.' "

"O Antiphons" (2019)

The seven images in this hand-printed linocut series by Kate Austin began as an artistic and spiritual exploration of the seven messianic names for Christ found in the familiar hymn O Come, O Come Emmanuel. Commissioned by Micah Behr, Worship Director at Geneva Campus Church, the original linoleum prints were digitally reproduced for the covers of the worship service bulletins during Advent 2019.

During Advent and Epiphany 2020-2021, Genevan musicians recorded arrangements by Micah Behr of the seven "O Antiphons."

O Emmanuel

O Sapientia

O Radix Jesse

O Rex Gentium

O Clavis David

O Adonai

Advent Themes

Of his four-part piece "Advent Themes", Genevan Bill Redinger writes, "The Advent banners present the traditional names of the four Advent candles in a large format that can be used each week in December.  The banners are made to be additive, like the wreath they represent. They are acrylic paint on paper. I painted all the candles purple just in case they needed to be shown in a different order. The words on each banner bear the meaning, but each also has a paired symbolic image.  Hope is paired with an evergreen, Love is paired with a rose, Joy is paired with holly berries, and Peace with a flowering poinsettia."
