Mercy & Justice
As a worshiping community, we look to Christ as the model of “true fasting” (Isa. 58:6-12), seeking to be obedient disciples who attend to cries of injustice in our community, draw near to the suffering, lay our own lives and rights down (1 John 3) and participate in the ministry of reconciliation (2 Cor. 5). Seeing the suffering Christ who fed the hungry, healed the sick, and welcomed the stranger, we seek to “go and do likewise” (Luke 10:25-37). We envision a future where every member of our church family, young and old, is actively growing in awareness of the needs within and around our church; growing in desire to see wholeness, dignity, and justice enjoyed by everyone in our community; regularly being invited to take steps to serve and live out these values; and doing so in a context of loving, mutual relationship with our neighbors, partners in mission, fellow congregations, and one another. We do this through:
RESTORATIVE RELATIONSHIPS & PRESENCE: pursuing justice-minded service opportunities centered on humble, mutual, and personal connection; care for the suffering; and long-term partnership over short-term fixes.
COMMUNITY TOGETHER: regularly seeking and sharing opportunities for Genevans of all ages to serve alongside one another; meet areas of need in our city; and share and receive gifts of love with and from neighbor and one another.
LIVING AS PEOPLE OF SHALOM: helping Genevans learn about areas of need affecting our neighbors and our church family; build awareness of justice-related issues burdening our community; and obey God’s call to minister mercy and justice in our daily lives.
